Doctor Who has created some truly memorable villains. Only some can really stand the test of time though and the Cybermen have managed to outlive everything we could have expected of them. They are one of the three core villains of the show.

While the Daleks and the Master both offer up a significant threat, the Cybermen have often acted as the villains for the finale of a series. But there’s still plenty we don’t know about this race of metal men.

ARE THEY STILL EXTINCT?

The finale of the last episode seemingly made it clear that the Cybermen are extinct. They were completely wiped out, but that doesn’t mean we’ve actually seen the end of them. They always find a way to return in some new way.

The prospect of whether they are extinct or not will be answered eventually. We have to just wait and see if they return in some form once more. The chances are that one of the writers will find a way to bring them back into the fold.

WHO’S THEIR CURRENT LEADER?

With the lone Cyberman dead, the Master seemingly gone, and a lot of other Cyber leaders deceased, it’s difficult to work out who actually has control of this race of metal men now. The leadership isn’t exactly chosen through an election.

At some point, someone will have to step up once again and take the Cybermen in a new direction. It’s difficult to say who that will be, or when that will happen, but surely there’s someone waiting in the wings to guide these villains.

COULD MONDAS RETURN?

Mondas is the original home of the Cybermen. It has been destroyed for some time but that hasn’t stopped the original Cybermen from returning. Since Mondas has long since gone though, we probably won’t ever see it again.

Having said that, we thought Gallifrey was wrecked and it turned out to still be out there somewhere. Perhaps Mondas was never really destroyed and there’s a version out there ready to make a comeback to take over the universe.

WHO DESIGNS THE CYBER ARMORS?

Every time the Cybermen return they have a more menacing design. They have gone through a number of different armors over the years, but one thing has always stuck out. Who actually designs all of these new looks?

There can’t be a Cyberman somewhere whose job it is to design the latest costume for all the new conversations to wear. And yet, it’s clearly a very deliberate choice when something new is added to these suits of armor.

ARE THERE MORE PARALLEL EARTHS WITH CYBERMEN?

The Cybermen were originally brought back into the rebooted series through the use of a parallel Earth. We have no idea how many more parallel Earths there are though, nor are we aware if they also contain Cybermen.

Since it’s happened once before, there could be hundreds of Cybermen out there in different dimensions, waiting and ready to take down every other iteration of Earth. We have no idea if this threat could emerge again from a different reality.

DO ANY CYBERMEN EXIST ON THE PARALLEL EARTH?

Whilst we’re talking about the parallel Earth it’s important to mention that the original Earth that we saw the Cybermen on, may still contain some Cybermen. We know that Mickey and others on that Earth were still fighting them off.

There’s every chance that the rift between worlds could open up again for the Cybermen to step through. On the other hand, perhaps that story is completely finished. Either way, it would be fun to see some old faces from that Earth.

IS ROBOTICS THEIR END GOAL?

The lone Cyberman revealed that his ultimate plan was to remove all the organic parts of the species and turn them into robots. This is something we haven’t heard from them before and seemed a little off.

However, it starts to make sense when you think about it, as Cybermen hate the human components of themselves and the flesh and bone that makes them also weakens them. So has turning towards robotics always been their end goal?

WHAT WOULD THEY LOOK LIKE AT THEIR HEIGHT?

The Cybermen have never quite achieved all their goals. The highest point they got to was on the parallel Earth but even then there was quite a large resistance. We’ve never seen them at their full power but it would be so interesting to.

An episode that takes place on a different planet, where the Cybermen have already completely taken over, would be a fascinating way to show why they are such a threat. It might even make them more menacing.

DO THEY HAVE NATURAL ALLIES?

While the Doctor always has a number of companions that can help him on his adventures, the Cybermen don’t appear to have any natural allies. Sure they’ve teamed with the Master a few times but outside of this they seem to be pretty lonely.

The Daleks have a similar outlook to them but they’ve still fought one another for supremacy of Earth. It appears that their race and planet don’t have any allies they can normally rely upon, but we may be wrong! It’s a question we’d love to have answered.

ARE THE CYBER MASTERS THE FUTURE?

The final episode of the show did introduce to us a new race of Cybermen, which were mixed with the organic components of the Time Lords. Known as the Cyber Masters, this new species was wiped out almost instantly by a huge blast.

In typical Doctor Who spirit though, there’s plenty of opportunities for this new race to be brought back in some way. In fact they could have all survived and regenerated, protected by their metallic armor from the blast. We’d love to know if this is the future of the Cyber armies.
