Director David Gordon Green’s Halloween (2018) returns to John Carpenter’s classic horror franchise, but does the movie have a post-credits scene teasing a sequel starring returning slasher Michael Myers? Carpenter first introduced horror fans to Michael Myers (Nick Castle) and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in the 1978 version of Halloween. The film was successful enough to launch a whole franchise based on the slasher character - who appeared in all but one of the series’ installments - with the last entry arriving in 2009 with Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, the sequel to his 2007 reboot.

Now, Green revives the Halloween franchise for this year’s quasi-reboot/sequel to the original 1978 movie. Halloween (2018) picks up 40 years following the events of the very first movie, reintroducing audiences to Laurie Strode and Michael Myers (Castle and James Jude Courtney) while erasing all the continuity established by the original film’s sequels. As such, Halloween retcons the Halloween II (1981) reveal that Laurie and Michael are siblings, reducing that tidbit to a rumor about the two. In the new film, viewers meet an older Laurie who’s been greatly affected by her run-in with Michael Myers, while he himself has been a prisoner studied by psychologists since his incarceration.

Now that Halloween (2018) is hitting theaters, fans of the franchise may be wondering whether the horror sequel sets up another movie through a scene after the credits. Halloween (2018) doesn’t have a post-credits scene, but it does feature something at the end of the credits. We won’t reveal what exactly it is to avoid spoiling it for moviegoers, but suffice it to say, it does tease another Halloween sequel.

As fans have seen with the Halloween movie franchise - as well as other 70s/80s horror classics like The Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th - studios are keen to keep them going, whether that entails sequels, reboots, remakes, or hybrids like Halloween (2018). Horror movies can be big moneymakers for studios, as they often cost very little to make but then earn a great deal at the box office. That’s why the Saw franchise is currently working on its ninth installment and The Conjuring has expanded to become a whole shared cinematic universe.

As such, it makes complete sense for Halloween (2018) to tease a sequel - especially since reports indicate Blumhouse is already working on a follow-up. However, the movie teases that sequel in a way that’s more subtle than using a post-credits scene. Post-credits scenes have become standard practice for big blockbuster universes, and it has begun to carry over to other kinds of films, including horror movies. Unfortunately for fans hoping to see more of the events in Haddonfield, Illinois, Halloween (2018) doesn’t have a full scene after the credits. But, die-hard fans of the Michael Myers-starring horror franchise still might want to stick around through the credits for a fun tease.
