UPDATE: Check out our thoughts on Incredibles 3!
Incredibles 2 depicts the continuing adventures of the Parr family, but does the Pixar sequel have an end-credits scene setting up another movie? Pixar introduced movie fans around the world to Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) and their three children nearly 14 years ago with Brad Bird’s The Incredibles. The film became a favorite for many and The Incredibles fans have been clamoring for a sequel for quite a while. Now, Bird returns to the franchise for Incredibles 2.
The sequel picks up just after the original concludes, with the Parr family taking on the Underminer. However, their battle with the villain leads to a great deal of destruction. As a result of superheroes being illegal, the family is arrested and the secret program that protects them is shut down. However, they’re approached by Winston Deavor (Bob Odenkirk) and his sister Evelyn (Catherine Keener) with a plan to make superheroes legal again. The ensuing movie is another exciting animated adventure, with reviews of Incredibles 2 largely praising the film - so much so that it’s officially Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Still, fans may be wondering if there’s an end-credits scene teasing another Incredible adventure. Unfortunately, Incredibles 2 doesn’t have an end-credits scene. There’s no extra button scene offering any kind of sequel tease, or even a fun additional sequence for fans who watched through the entire credits. However, there are some fun songs that play during the credits. Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) each get their own theme song that plays while the credits roll.
UPDATE: There may be no stinger, but Incredibles 2’s credits do still tease a big villain return.
Even though Incredibles 2 doesn’t have an end-credits scene setting up a sequel, the fans who waited 14 years for this followup to The Incredibles may still hope for another installment in this animated franchise. Certainly, with the rise of superheroes in film and on TV over the last decade, The Incredibles is even more in keeping with Hollywood trends now than it was when it originally premiered. As a result, there may be even more fun to be had with the Incredibles series’ take on superheroes.
That said, though, another Incredibles movie would no doubt depend on whether Bird would like to return to the franchise for a third go. However, Bird notoriously isn’t a fan of doing sequels, let alone threequels. So it seems unlikely there will be an Incredibles 3. Additionally, that may explain why Incredibles 2 doesn’t have an end-credits scene. After The Incredibles ended on such an obvious sequel tease, fans were even more adamant about the movie needing a followup.
Still, even though Incredibles 2 doesn’t have an end-credits scene, there’s plenty to enjoy about the movie. And, if Pixar and Bird really want to do a third movie in their Incredibles series, there’s no doubt they could find a way.
