Prison Break, which starred Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, originally had a four year run on Fox from 2005-2009. Based on the idea that the best way to break someone out of prison would be to break in, the series developed a devoted following in its short run. As the series progressed, the show garnered quite a few critical nominations, including one Golden Globe nom for Best Television Series, and saw several spin offs including a video game, Prison Break: The Conspiracy.

In the summer of 2015, Fox announced that they were going to be dusting off Prison Break for a return to the small screen as a limited series event; similar to what they did with 24: Live Another Day. Production began in April 2016, and it has been shooting in both Vancouver and Morocco.

Recently, a spokesperson for 20th Century Fox confirmed that Purcell suffered a major head and face injury while filming in Marrakesh, Morocco. While he is expected to be out for up to two weeks for recovery, there is not going to be a delay in filming. In a statement to Deadline, the spokesperson said:

After getting all patched up, Purcell took to Instagram to assure fans that he’s just fine.

“Our friend and colleague Dominic Purcell was injured earlier this week during the filming of our event series Prison Break, and was flown to a medical facility where he received treatment. We are happy to report that he is in great spirits and is expected to make a full recovery. He wanted us to express his appreciation to the fans around the world who have expressed their concern and support, and to reassure them that he will be back at work very soon.”

He subsequently posted another photo a day later stating that he wished he had “discovered something profound out of [his] near miss,” but no epiphanies yet; only that life goes on.

Fox’s runaway hit centered around two brothers, one of whom, Lincoln Burrows (played by Purcell), was wrongly convicted of murder, and the other, Michael Scofield (played by Miller), made it his mission to clear his brother’s name. Spoiler alert: Their plan is successful, and after they break out, the plot unfolds into a much larger conspiracy involving a clandestine organization known only as The Company that has ties all the way up the chain of command to the President of the United States.

Although fans of Prison Break are likely most happy to hear the actor will see a full recover, the lack of delay in production is also good to hear. As such, the Prison Break limited series is likely still on track to premiere on Fox in 2017.
