Rumor has it Michael B. Jordan and Donald Glover may be part of the cast for Black Panther 2. Marvel kicked off 2018 to record breaking success even before Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters. Ryan Coogler directed the first installment of Chadwick Boseman’s franchise to great success thanks to the rich world of Wakanda and one of the MCU’s best villains. The film currently boasts a $1.3 billion worldwide gross and has made fans eager to see what else the franchise will hold.

Even though Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced that Black Panther 2 is happening, it most definitely is. They appear to be all-in on Coogler with Kevin Feige indicating they’d possibly wait to do a sequel until Coogler could do it. Where the story could potentially go is very unclear and will remain so until Avengers 4 hits theaters, but the sequel may be lining up another all-star cast.

Metro.co.uk is reporting their sources have exclusively shared with them that Coogler is hard at work crafting the sequel and already has created a number of new characters. They are being told that Coogler is having “informal talks” with Donald Glover about taking on one of the roles. Not only that, but they say that a return of Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger is also being discussed. All of this should be taken with a major grain of salt and would raise some intriguing questions if proven to be true.

UPDATE: The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez tweeted that there is “No truth whatsoever” to this rumor.

Starting with the possible casting of Donald Glover in Black Panther 2, it is easy to understand why Coogler would want to cast him. Glover’s star has never shined brighter than it is right now thanks to Atlanta, his “This Is America” music video, and what appears to be a scene-stealing role in Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, Glover is already involved in the MCU. Glover made his debut last year in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Aaron Davis, the uncle to Miles Morales. He wouldn’t be the first actor to play multiple roles in the MCU, but he’d certainly be the biggest name and character to do so.

Bringing back Michael B. Jordan though is interesting on a number of levels. Coogler has been adamant that Killmonger was always going to die in Black Panther. There’s also been plenty of hesitation about possibly bringing him back as it could take away from the first film’s ending. However, there’s a number of ways Killmonger could return. Even though he burned all of the heart-shaped herbs, it is possible T’Challa could see his cousin in the ancestral plane. We also can’t discount the fact that Avengers 4 could end with a completely changed timeline, maybe even one where T’Chaka didn’t kill Killmonger’s father, resulting a completely different upbringing.

Considering the source of this report, it is best to not get hopes too high that either one of these will happen. After all, Black Panther 2 is still a few years away so things could change dramatically even if these conversations are currently happening. We’ll just have to wait and see whether or not these rumors turn into something real.
