Donnie Yen has shared the first trailer of his upcoming action film Big Brother, which sees the martial arts star play the role of a seemingly ordinary schoolteacher with a dark past and a special skill set. The film’s cast is supported by a number of MMA fighters.

Donnie Yen is one of the leading martial arts actors in China who rose to international stardom with the box office smash hit Ip Man, a film about the life of Yip Man, Bruce Lee’s mentor. The film has spawned two sequels. Yen also starred as the male lead alongside Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, the long-awaited sequel to the wuxia classic. Yen is also known to American audiences for his role as the blind swordsman in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Yen’s character has been described by Mark Hamill as Star Wars’ best fighter.

Yen has now shared the first teaser trailer for his latest film, Big Brother, directed by Kam Kar-wai. In the trailer, we see Yen playing a high school teacher who goes looking for a missing student. His search leads him into a conflict with a group of MMA fighters. Based on Yen’s moves in the trailer, it’s clear that his character is much more than a simple schoolteacher. Several stuntmen and actors in the film have careers in MMA, including Jess Liaudin, Brahim Acchabkhe, Mike Leeder, and more. The film also stars Ray Liu, Chinese drama actress Joe Chen, and Yang Yu, a longtime member of Yen’s action team. You can watch the trailer below.

The trailer may remind fans of the actor’s previous work, such as his roles in Flash Point and Kill Zone. Yen, a self-professed fan of MMA, employed MMA techniques in the fight choreography for his films, which helped give MMA exposure in Chinese culture.

2018 is proving to be a busy year for Yen, as Big Brother is only one of four films that he is set to star in this year. Yen is also working on a fourth Ip Man film, which will be the first movie in the franchise set in America. Yen will also star in Iceman 2 and Enter the Fat Dragon, a remake of a Bruce Lee parody film starring Sammo Hung. All four movies on Yen’s slate for 2018 will showcase the actor’s skills as a martial artist.
