John Krasinski trusts Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige to cast Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four movie, even if he is not chosen. When it was first reported that Walt Disney could acquire 20th Century Fox, one thought that quickly came to the minds of Marvel fans was the possibility the MCU could one day use the Fantastic Four and X-Men for the first time. This is finally a reality after the deal closed in 2019 and Feige confirmed last summer that Marvel Studios has begun planning how to introduce the Fantastic Four in the MCU.

So far, there have been no updates on these plans, but the aspect of the Fantastic Four joining the MCU that has been most discussed is who could play the four main characters: Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm aka Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm aka Human Torch, and Ben Grimm aka The Thing. Fans have continued to suggest who they would like to see in these roles, which has made Krasinski the internet’s favorite choice for Reed. The good news for fans is that he’s interested in the role, even if Marvel has yet to discuss it with him.

Krasinski is now promoting the release of A Quiet Place Part II, which has received positive early reactions, and Screen Rant had the opportunity to talk to the writer-director-actor at the film’s press junket. During our interview with Krasinski, we asked him about the continued efforts of fans to get him cast as Reed Richards and the abundance of fan art that has been made as a result. Krasinski said:

After previously missing out on the role of Captain America in the MCU, Krasinski has now found himself in an interesting position with the universe. He’s having fun with the Fantastic Four fan casts and fan art and is an admirer of the MCU, but that hasn’t translated to him being cast. Krasinski confirmed in a follow-up question that there are no Fantastic Four-related talks happening between him and Feige, “It’s not, unless you know him, you should call him right now.” Of course, that could change whenever Marvel begins actively searching for people to play Marvel’s first family - if they haven’t already.

I only just became aware of it recently. Somebody just said it today that I’m being drawn like him, which I didn’t know. I’ve seen the fan art. That guy BossLogic has done some incredible stuff. I feel indebted to him because whether or not it happens, I can feel like it did because I’ll throw that on my wall and say that I did it. No, it’s one of those things where, I haven’t really been apart of something where the Twitterverse, [the] internet, get behind for a role - certainly of that caliber. I love the Marvel movies, I love everything Kevin Feige does. The dude’s a genius so in him I trust and if he wants me to do something like that, I would love it.

Although Krasinski is the actor at the top of most fan casts to play Reed Richards, he is far from the only option that Marvel Studios has. Even if he did agree to play the role, that wouldn’t guarantee that his real-life wife Emily Blunt would play Sue Storm. As great of a pairing as Krasinski and Blunt could make as Reed and Sue, there is simply no way of knowing whether or not they’ll get the parts. For now, Krasinski can continue to flourish behind the camera with A Quiet Place Part II and let Feige figure out who will be the best fit for the MCU’s Reed Richards. If Krasinski does wind up missing out on the role, perhaps he’ll get the opportunity to direct Fantastic Four instead.
