More cracks are starting to show in Marvel’s approach in keeping Fox properties out of Marvel video games as the Fantastic Four have finally been added to Marvel Future Fight. Over the past several years, Marvel has been strict about keeping the Fantastic Four and the X-Men out of video games starring Marvel characters, but lately that strategy appears to be changing.

That change is most likely due in no small part to the Fox-Disney deal, which will see 20th Century Fox sell all of its film and TV assets to Disney. This includes the rights to the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. The deal is expected to close by the end of the month. In regards to the two Marvel properties, the deal is hugely important to fans who have longed to see the Human Torch, Wolverine, Cyclops, and more finally join the MCU. However, it also affects other mediums, such as video games.

Netmarble Corp. has announced that the Fantastic Four is joining Marvel Future Fight. Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, The Thing and their archenemy Doctor Doom have all been added as playable characters in the free-to-play mobile RPG. Fantastic Four uniforms have also been added as alternate costumes for existing Future Fight characters and former team members Crystal and She-Hulk. Other Marvel mobile games, such as Marvel Puzzle Quest, Marvel Strike Force,  and Marvel Contest of Champions are receiving Fantastic Four content as well.

Their arrival in Future Fight comes over three years after the game launched back in April of 2015, and almost two years after the X-Men joined the roster in 2017. Marvel Future Fight has an extensive library of characters that ranges from the Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, to lesser-known heroes like Shang-Chi and Daimon Hellstrom, so the absence of such a key corner of the Marvel Universe was something that was strongly felt by fans of the mobile game.

In recent years, Marvel has been even more strict with the Fantastic Four than with the X-Men. The X-Men have been allowed more appearances in mobile games than Marvel’s First Family. In fact, both properties were featured in the MMORPG Marvel Heroes before the Fantastic Four characters were mysteriously pulled from the game.

The addition of the Fantastic Four to Marvel Future Fight could be a sign of things to come, especially with more Marvel games on the way, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 for the Nintendo Switch.
