It turns out that Tom Holland wasn’t the only one in charge of trying to hold back Avengers: Endgame spoilers, the actors in Spider-Man: Far From Home knew what happened in the Avengers’ climactic finale before some of the latter’s actors knew. Far From Home is the final movie in the MCU’s Phase 3, and follows everyone’s favorite web-slinger moments after the events in Endgame. In the sophomore outing for Marvel and Sony’s Friendly Neighborhood Superhero, Peter Parker heads to Europe on a recreational trip with his friends. But, Parker’s summer fun is cut short when Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) recruits him for a new mission that finds him teaming up with Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). The film has been praised on a number of levels, critically and amongst audiences, and currently remains Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Far From Home was carrying a lot on its shoulders after the Avengers’ riveting final outing. Since its release, Endgame has dominated the box office, and is currently almost $12 million shy of surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar at the global box office. Many moviegoers believed that it would be the perfect film to close out Marvel’s 3rd Phase, but in a major twist of events, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced in April of this year that Far From Home would be the movie to close out this cinematic chapter for the mega-successful comic book studio. That decision, though strange at first, benefitted the MCU in a number of ways. Not only by setting up stories yet to come, but by bringing closure to the heartbreaking losses in Endgame.

As it turns out, the cast of Far From Home knew about the heartbreaking ups and downs of Endgame before the movie was even released. During an interview with ET, Tony Revolori, who plays Flash Thompson, explained that the cast members, “were all sat down in a room, at least [he] was, and [producer] Eric Carroll came in and told most of the cast what happens in Endgame.” He went on to add that the cast knew, “things that happened in Endgame before some of the Endgame actors themselves.”  A lot of the reasoning for this was because Far From Home was shot, “a year before it [Endgame] came out, so [they] had to figure all that out and they had to tell us all about it.”

A move like this is smart on the producer’s part, especially with Tom Holland playing a major role in both films. Funny enough, Holland has become notorious for spoiling majorly significant plot details. Even if the producers had covered significant ground plot-wise with the cast, Holland was the first to spill major spoilers surrounding the death of his mentor, Tony Stark, in Endgame to his cast mates. His co-stars were quick to joke and laugh about it, but Holland’s inability to remain tight-lipped has led to Marvel taking precautions with him before moving forward in productions.

Far From Home ended up being the perfect way to close out this phase of the MCU. Not only is it an exciting, bubbly, and wildly fun ride for audiences and die-hard Marvel fans, but it ends this phase on a much lighter note. The events of Endgame were heavy and emotional for MCU fans, so Spider-Man: Far From Home has served as a much-needed breath of fresh air to help set up the exciting chapters still to come while laying to rest the stories of the past.
