In a stunning bit of news, it turns out that more characters will be making the move from The Walking Dead to its spinoff show Fear the Walking Dead. It’s an exciting night for fans of both series, as the latter show will air its season 4 premiere right after the former airs its season 8 finale. One of the most intriguing elements of Fear the Walking Dead’s fourth season is the promised crossover, which will see Morgan (Lennie James) somehow migrating between shows to end up with the Clark family.

The trailer for Fear the Walking Dead season 4 saw Morgan talking cryptically about a fight that he’d left behind him where good people had died, indicating that the prequel show will jump forward in time to catch up with the timeline of The Walking Dead. The two shows are separated by distance as well as time, since The Walking Dead is set in Georgia and Fear has straddled the border between California and Mexico, but apparently that won’t keep the two sets of survivors from meeting.

On “Survival Sunday,” the official Walking Dead Twitter account shared this intriguing tease for the upcoming fourth season of Fear the Walking Dead, indicating that at least one more character from the original show will be making the journey over to the spinoff.

Wait, did we say Morgan’s the only character from #TheWalkingDead crossing over to #FearTWD? Because he’s not. pic.twitter.com/6fDMSFR7jZ— The Walking Dead (@TheWalkingDead) April 15, 2018

Assuming that Fear the Walking Dead season 4 does take place after “All Out War,” there are a great many characters who might jump the fence along with Morgan. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) would most likely want to stay at Hilltop, given their leadership roles (and the fact that Maggie is pregnant), but Heath (Corey Hawkins) has been missing for a long time, so perhaps he’ll re-emerge in Fear. Then there’s the possibility of The Walking Dead lending one of its more popular characters - for example, Daryl (Norman Reedus) - to its sister show, in order to give season 4 a bit of a ratings boost.

Indeed, both shows could do with a shot in the arm. Season 8 of The Walking Dead has seen the lowest ratings since season 1, and fans have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the drawn-out war between Rick’s group and Negan’s Saviors. An in-depth crossover, with Fear the Walking Dead setting up events in season 9 of The Walking Dead, could be an interesting way to boost interest in both shows, though it might be difficult to pull off from a narrative and logistical standpoint.

Then, of course, there are the theories that there’s some kind of deep, secret connection between the two series - including the popular fan theory that Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) is actually Rick’s sister. Whatever the case may be, at least we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out who Fear the Walking Dead’s surprise crossover character(s) will be.
