The female superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will return very soon, according to MCU head honcho Kevin Feige. With audiences asking for better representation in movies, Marvel Studios is making the effort to meet that need. They’ve got Captain Marvel coming in 2019 with Brie Larson, and Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp gets co-billing this summer in Ant-Man and The Wasp. Development is also finally underway on a Scarlett Johansson led Black Widow movie. While those are all starring roles, the universe has also added multiple important female characters in other movies.

One of the MCU’s biggest stars last year was Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok. Following the love she received, Thompson approached Feige with several other MCU female actors to discuss an all-female MCU movie team-up. The prospects of such a project have only continued to grow, especially now with Black Panther bringing in more new fan favorite female characters. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long to see them again.

Vulture spoke to Feige and asked him about the push for an all-female team up MCU movie. After calling the growing number of great female heroes “an embarrassment of riches,” Feige still isn’t ready to say publicly what the plans are - or if a female team movie is in the cards. But, he did reassure that these characters will return very soon with several having already filmed scenes for future movies:

It is all about figuring out when and how. But by the way, many of them have already filmed additional scenes in upcoming movies, so some of that is gonna come sooner rather than later. All of them will be seen again.

Where and when we will see many of these characters again isn’t a secret at this point. Okoye (Danai Gurira) appeared in the Avengers: Infinity War teaser trailer, and Shuri (Letitia Wright) has already been confirmed to have a role too. There have been rumors of Thompson reporting to set for Infinity War too, so that may be the movie that Feige is referencing. As for one of Black Panther’s other stars, Nakia’s (Lupita Nyong’o) next appearance hasn’t been revealed just yet, but she may yet show up to battle Thanos later this year.

As great as it is for these characters to continue to appear, the bigger interest comes in them all appearing together and as a team. Marvel Studios may not have yet announced what the plan is beyond Phase 3, but there certainly is one. They are clearly making a more conscious effort to have more important female roles, especially starring ones, so why wouldn’t they one day in the near future have them star alongside one another? The MCU is only going to become richer and more populated as the years go on, and in the aftermath of Thanos’ arrival, something like A-Force could be just what both the real and fictional worlds need.
