Square Enix’s E3 2019 presentation showed off a number of Final Fantasy titles, including the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion which is due to be released in July this year. According to the new launch trailer revealed at the presentation, FFXIV Shadowbringers will focus on the Warrior of Darkness bringing the fight to a world where the Light has consumed everything, it’ll also introduce the highly-anticipated Viera playable race.

Naoki Yoshida himself was present at the Square Enix conference, and he spoke briefly to the record subscriber count that the company’s MMORPG has achieved in the leadup to FFXIV Shadowbringers — the game has surpassed 16 million players as of last month. Yoshida also emphasized a lot of the details that were revealed at this year’s Fanfest, including the new classes and races.

The FFXIV Shadowbringers launch trailer that was shown at the Square Enix conference fleshed out some of the missing information that fans may have had about the Warrior of Darkness and their crusade. The footage confirmed that the player character will be visiting a world that’s been consumed by primordial Light, and that the introduction of Darkness is the only thing that’s going to be able to save it. Fan favorite characters such as Alphinaud also made an appearance in the trailer, and we also saw more of the denizens that inhabit the world of Shadowbringers in all their glory.

Those who are raring to get into FFXIV Shadowbringers don’t have much longer to wait. The release date for the expansion is officially July 2 2019, so we’re just under a month away from being able to jump into the role of the Warrior of Darkness. Yoshida also mentioned during the conference that this will be the last major Final Fantasy release until the Final Fantasy VII Remake comes out in March 2020; if you’re wanting to get your Square Enix fix, then you’ll definitely be wanting to take a tour of Eorzea to pass the time.
