Having been blending with the rest of humanity since she left Themyscira to put a stop to the first World War, Wonder Woman 1984 will pose a new threat via Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah. Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal also joins the project in a still-undisclosed role, but word is that he’ll be playing Maxwell Lord, a powerful businessman in the comics who can serve as a secondary villain to the narrative. Production wrapped up back in December, with a several marketing materials starting to emerge, including this new poster.

Shared online by Twitter fan-account DC Universe (via CBR) is a new one-sheet for Wonder Woman 1984. The poster was spotted at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas and features Diana in her armor sporting the superhero landing pose. It has a fairly plain black background with the film’s stylized title to fit the psychedelic and trippy aesthetic of the ’80s. Check out the image below:

Aside from its setting, not much is known regarding specific plot points for Wonder Woman 1984, but considering what Gadot and Jenkins were able to accomplish in Wonder Woman, it’s safe to say that the follow-up film is in great hands. Fans are particularly curious how Trevor is able to return following his heartbreaking death in the first movie. Sadly, the public will have to wait longer since Wonder Woman 1984 was pushed back to next year, instead of this fall. The good thing about this is that Jenkins will be in no rush to polish the film in post-production, which was a common problem for early DCEU movies.

Wonder Woman 1984 is leaning on its prequel setting and this new poster is only the latest proof of that. The film’s working title “Magic Hour” had a similar funky text design treatment, and the set photos have showed the Diana and even Steve embracing the fashion sense of the ’80s. Jenkins and her team did a really great job establishing the backdrops for Wonder Woman - lush greens and deep blue oceans of Themyscira to the dark and grimy-looking war-torn metropolis. It’ll be interesting to see what she’s going to do with the sequel knowing that underneath the vibrant colors of the decade is the looming dangers brought by the Cold War.
