Warner Bros. is gearing up to kick off their DC Comics Extended Universe in a few short months with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will be followed later this year by David Ayer’s supervillain team-up film, Suicide Squad. With it slated for a summer release, Warner Bros. has already begun the marketing push for the movie; a first trailer debuted at Comic-Con International 2015 in San Diego, and the second trailer is set to premiere during The CW’s special, DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League.
Teased as “a Dirty Dozen with supervillains,” Suicide Squad unites Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Slipknot (Adam Beach), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), and Diablo (Jay Hernandez) in a team led by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) will oversee the team of villains called Task Force X, while The Joker (Jared Leto) will be an unpredictable factor in the film. Now, after character posters for the main cast were recently released, Warner Bros. has debuted a full cast poster.
Yahoo! Movies revealed the first full cast poster, mimicking the colorful artwork of the character images. True to what we know about Suicide Squad, Waller is assembled with Task Force X, while The Joker is off on his own. Check out the full poster:
DC and comic book fans may recognize a good deal (if not all) of the characters that will be featured in Suicide Squad. But, it makes sense for this first full poster to highlight The Joker since he is the most recognizable of the bunch to mainstream audiences - and has faced off against Batman in many types of media, including three previously-released live-action films.
That being said, though, he isn’t the only character on the poster, which includes the entire team of Task Force X along with Amanda Waller. Between this cast of villains - including the A-List talent behind the characters - and the premise of a film following anti-heroes rather than superheroes, Suicide Squad has become one of the most anticipated comic book movies of 2016. Additionally, Screen Rant ranked it as being one of our most anticipated films of the year.
Of course, whether Suicide Squad lives up to the hype, which will further build thanks to the second trailer that’s soon to be released, remains to be seen when the film hits theaters later this year.
