FX releases its fall 2019 schedule, featuring premiere dates for Mayans M.C., Mr. Inbetween, American Horror Story: 1984, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Even though TV is a year-round business now, with streaming services and premium channels and the like churning out new series at what feels like a relentless pace, the familiar anticipation for fall premieres has yet to completely vanish. Capitalizing on that is FX, which is set to come into the fall with some returning favorites, and a second season of one last year’s best new shows.
The Australian import Mr. Inbetween was a surprisingly and refreshingly different take on the typical hitman genre, infusing comedy and genuine pathos with the usual shocking bouts of violence, the series introduced American audiences to creator, writer, and star Scott Ryan, while also offering a supporting role to Damon Herriman (Justified, Quarry), who is set to make a splash twice this year playing Charles Manson in both Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and season 2 of David Fincher’s Netflix drama Mindhunter.

In addition to its series from down under, this September will also kick off the second season of the Sons of Anarchy spinoff, Mayans M.C., as well as the ninth installment of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, which has been subtitled 1984, and will no doubt be as subtle and nuanced any other installment in the franchise. And finally, the gang will return for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 14. Check out the full list of FX fall 2019 premiere dates below:
With the exception of Mr. Inbetween, the network’s fall lineup is a mix of old series and a spinoff from one of the network’s most popular shows to date. Some might say FX is playing it safe with this batch of shows, though it’s hard to argue with wanting to continue the success of AHS and It’s Always Sunny, especially since the former is an anthology and technically brings a new storyline to bat each year. It will be interesting to see how season 2 of Mayans fares now that the sheen of its spinoff status has worn off somewhat and the series will now have a chance to define itself outside the shadow of SAMCRO.
“Mayans M.C. – Season Two Premieres Tuesday, September 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX

There’s a lot to look forward to with the fall 2019 season, and FX has now thrown its hat in the ring. It looks as though it will be a busy September for TV watchers, especially those who tune in to one of cable’s best networks.
