When it comes to franchises and universes based within those franchises, both the allegiance and opinions of fans can create no small amount of disagreement. For quite some time now, Marvel and 20th Century Fox have been building their own onscreen universe that has incorporated some of the most famous superheroes in the world.

Depending on who you ask, some would argue that Marvel’s cinematic output and penchant for incorporating heroes into shared universes and story lines has been almost perfect in its execution. Others would insist that while Marvel’s efforts may have had the odd misstep, they are still well ahead of DC and Warner when it comes to putting out content that satisfies fans.

All opinions are valid, but the fact remains that when it comes to a shared cinematic universe, the DC Extended Universe has yet to reach the somewhat massive status that Marvel has. That’s going to change – Warner already has a host of films currently in development – but it takes time and details of the DCEU are not always easy to come by. The upcoming Justice League films are two of Warner’s most hotly anticipated projects and we can now confirm that the Green Lantern Corps will be part of those stories - even though no Green Lanterns appeared in the recently-unveiled Justice League concept art.

During the DC Films Presents: The Dawn of the Justice League special that aired on The CW, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns confirmed to Kevin Smith that the upcoming Justice League films will include the intergalactic police force otherwise known as The Green Lantern Corps. Per Johns:

This is of course, great news for Green Lantern fans, though not much information beyond this has been given regarding exactly to what extent the Corps’ involvement will be. We also are unsure as to which Green Lantern hero will be directly involved in the Justice League films, but Ryan Reynolds’ iteration of Hal Jordan from the 2011 Green Lantern movie will not be returning in the DCEU.

“We’ve been to the bottom of the ocean, we’ve been to ancient Greek mythology, we’ve been to the past and future with the Flash, we’ve been to the digital world with Cyborg.  We still got to go to space. So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps are coming to join the Justice League universe.”

Since both Justice League films will hit theaters well before Warner’s Green Lantern Corps movie, fans will have an early chance at getting all the details of what this latest incarnation of the Green Lantern mythology will be like, well before said “solo” movie.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016, which is followed by Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 23, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and then Green Lantern Corps on June 19, 2020.
