Actress Karen Gillan is “excited” about making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the fans. Gillan plays the character Nebula, who is the adoptive daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos, making Gamora her adoptive sister. Nebula first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, but has since appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War.

While the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films did quite well with fans, the third film has been in jeopardy for months since Disney fired James Gunn, due to some of his years-old tweets. Following Gunn’s firing, many celebrities and fans defended Gunn with thousands of people signing a petition for Disney to rehire him. Nine of the biggest cast members from the Guardians of the Galaxy even released an open letter supporting Gunn, but Disney has yet to rehire Gunn, or even find another director. Now that it has been a few months since the firing occurred, Gillan has commented about the future of the film.

Talking with People briefly about Avengers: Endgame and her upcoming film The Party’s Just Beginning, Gillan expressed her excitement about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. When asked about the next installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, Gillan commented, “Our director won’t be with us any longer but we are excited to continue the Guardians of the Galaxy story and keep delivering to the fans. That’s the most important thing. I don’t have any details as to when [the next Guardians film will come out] but there’s a script in existence”.

Although Disney doesn’t seem to be hiring Gunn back anytime soon, both parties have moved on from the drama surrounding Gunn’s firing. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is thought to be starting production in 2021 with Disney using Gunn’s script. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will go under the working title Hot Christmas, and the delay of the film did not impact Avengers 4 at all.  As for Gunn, the director has been hired at Warner Bros. to write for Suicide Squad 2, and also might direct the film.

While most fans and celebrities were disgusted with Disney for firing Gunn, Gillan and many others have come to terms with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 moving on without him. While actors like Dave Bautista have announced he will only act in the Guardians’ third outing due to a legal obligation, Gillan seems genuinely thrilled to be able to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for fans. After all, both Guardians of the Galaxy movies pulled in a lot of money, which means that Gillan will likely receive a hefty paycheck for appearing in the third film.
