Google is rolling out a handful of new Maps features for the summer, but the highlight is a significant update to location sharing that lets you receive arrival and departure notifications. Google Maps is adding location-sharing notifications that can alert you when somebody has arrived or left a place. Once this feature is live, open their page in the app to start the set-up process. The alerts are for “every time” a person arrives/leaves, so it’s continuous....

Guillermo del Toro is known for being an eclectic talent, so it should be no surprise that his current slate of projects runs across a wide variety of genres, platforms, and formats. The director is still polishing up his next feature film, the Cold War-era fantasy-romance The Shape of Water. He also has written the story for the upcoming Pacific Rim: Uprising and recently set in motion talks for Hellboy 3....

The trailer for director Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet, is now online. Historical biographies are often released towards the end of the year, just as awards voting bodies prepare to announce their annual picks for the best in film. In November 2018, for example, the Freddie Mercury and Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody opened big at the box office and went on to earn several prizes, including the Oscars for Best Actor and Editing....

Fans of Venom know the love between Eddie Brock and the symbiote has always been hard to define. But in the newest comics, Marvel has confirmed that Eddie isn’t just completely devoted to his alien symbiote… he’s painfully jealous of the love it still feel for its ex-boyfriend. In all honesty, referring to the host of the Venom symbiote as a “boyfriend” would be selling that connection short, since the true blending of identities that defines the Venom symbiote goes much, much deeper than affection....

Apple is asking a court to prevent future patent infringement claims from someone who appears to be a Face ID patent troll. California resident Chian Chiu Li last month filed a patent infringement against Apple, then last week withdrew the complaint without explanation … The patent Li’s patent concerns a way to detect when someone is not actively using a smartphone but glances at the lockscreen, using this as a prompt to display information....

Hugh Grant could have landed the starring role in Doctor Who if showrunner Russell T. Davies had his way. Davies was the man responsible for reviving the iconic science fiction series back in 2005 and had the thankless task of finding an actor who could bring the role of The Doctor into the new millennium whilst also honoring Who’s long history. That job ultimately went to Christopher Eccleston who helped turn the franchise into a major success before bowing out after a single season due to problems with the BBC and Doctor Who’s leadership....

Fox Searchlight and producer DeVon Franklin now have the rights to Flamin’ Hot, a biopic about the creator of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Flamin’ Hot will follow the incredible rise of current Frito-Lays executive, Richard Montanez. Born in Mexico and the son of an immigrant, Montanez began life in America picking grapes with his family in the rural areas near Ontario, CA. Due to difficulties with learning English, Richard dropped out of high school and went to work as a janitor for Frito-Lay’s Rancho Cucamonga plant....

There will be SPOILERS.] – The concept of a Full House revival may have started out as a joke, but Netflix brought the Tanner family back to the forefront of pop culture with the sequel series Fuller House. Most of the cast of Full House signed on to return for the Netflix series, but throughout the show’s production rumors circulated about the involvement of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - who shared the role of youngest Tanner daughter Michelle - though it was eventually confirmed they wouldn’t appear....

Fans have known Gears of War 4 was coming for a long time. Amid pushback regarding Apple’s plans to return to in-person work this fall, Mark Gurman at Bloomberg reports that Apple is “ramping up efforts to decentralize out of Silicon Valley.” In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman reports that Apple has faced a variety of problems recruiting and retaining talent because of its emphasis on Silicon Valley. Gurman writes that Apple has been “losing talent” because of the high-cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area....

In a year that’s positively bursting with superhero movies - Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, the list goes on - there’s one unlikely candidate receiving a surprising amount of attention: Suicide Squad. To begin with, the film isn’t even necessarily a superhero movie, boasting a cast of characters better known as supervillians and anti-heroes. It also doesn’t appear as responsible for furthering the DCEU like Batman V Superman is, or establishing future conflict in the MCU like Civil War is going to....

One of the more talked-about moments of the making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the on-set injury suffered by Harrison Ford. Despite the incident sustained via a closing door onboard the Millennium Falcon set delaying filming for two months, Han Solo proved as durable and sturdy a specimen as the actor portraying him. However, Ford was soon back in action, with the film still on course for its long-awaited December 2015 theatrical release....

Dumbo actor Joseph Gatt has compared his character in upcoming 2019 Disney remake to that of Star Wars’ Darth Vader. Dumbo is the latest animated feature from Disney’s pantheon to receive a second look. With the direction of Tim Burton, 2019’s Dumbo aims to upgrade the 1941 animated original for a new audience by bringing in live-action actors and tweaking the story. One of these changes involves the villains in the movie....

Could this mean the end of Apple’s lightning port in the EU? The EU is continuing to fight to make USB-C charging the standard on portable devices. The Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee aims to create new rules that would help consumers no longer need a new charging cable every time they buy a new device. The hope is for people to only have one charger for all of their small and medium-sized device; this would include smartphones, tablets, and headphones, among others....

In an exclusive deal with Netflix, Michael B. Jordan will soon reunite with Black Panther’s screenwriter for Failsafe, an adaptation of the Vault Comics series. If everything goes as planned, Jordan will not only produce the potential blockbuster, but also land the lead role as an insurgent hunter out for vengeance. In contrast to popular franchises like Marvel Comics and DC Comics, Vault Comics is relatively new. Founded in 2016, the privately owned company released Failsafe’s first issue on April 19, 2017, in which protagonist John Ravane comes to the realization that he didn’t actually eliminate the world’s last nanotech-enhanced super soldier....
