Since Apple’s app tracking transparency feature began, Meta has seen shaky results regarding its advertising to iOS users. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, relies heavily on ad revenue and has seen damages from Apple’s ad changes. However, many small businesses are claiming that their ads on Facebook and Instagram are suddenly performing better than normal. The reason why is not completely clear, but this boost is making these advertisers buy more than usual lately....

A Facebook privacy lawsuit looks likely to be settled after parent company Meta offered a total of $37.5M to settle claims by US users. The lawsuit relates to Facebook tracking user locations even after they had switched off Location Services … Where location data was not available, the app used IP addresses in order to obtain a general location for the purpose of serving ads for local businesses. The lawsuit alleged that this violated California law, as well as breaching the company’s own privacy policy – the latter meaning that any US Facebook user would have a claim against the company....

FOX chairman Gary Newman thinks chances are good that Gotham season 5 will “have a place” in the network’s fall 2018 line-up. Production on Guillermo del Toro’s Fantastic Voyage has been delayed, in order to allow the filmmaker enough time to complete his next theatrical release, The Shape of Water. The Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director has been attached to helm Fantastic Voyage - a remake of the 1966 sci-fi film of the same name - since early 2016, after talks with such prospective directors as Paul Greengrass and Shawn Levy ultimately fell by the wayside....

CloudKit is an Apple framework integrated into iOS and macOS that works as a backend for apps. Developer Frans Rosén has found a way to use Apple’s cloud platform to delete public Siri Shortcuts and even content from other Apple apps such as Apple News. Rosén began searching for exploits on Apple’s platforms in February of this year. He started checking the traffic of all Apple apps and studying CloudKit in depth....

Recently it was revealed that Anker’s Eufy was sending data from its cameras to the cloud, despite advertising the opposite. Now, Eufy has updated its app to with a disclosure more clearly explaining that it is sending data to the cloud when certain settings are enabled. To summarize Eufy’s security issues, there were two key problems. Firstly, Eufy was advertising its cameras and video doorbells with local-only recording for enhanced security, but a security researcher found that the company was uploading images from the cameras to AWS servers alongside facial recognition data....

With an update to iOS 14 earlier this year, Apple rolled out its new App Tracking Transparency feature to give users more control over their privacy. Now, Facebook has issued a rare mid-quarter update to investors saying that Apple’s ad changes continue to impact its business. Facebook product marketing VP Graham Mudd issued the warning in a blog post published today. Mudd writes that Facebook had already warned about the potential impact Apple’s changes could have on advertising, but the mid-quarter update signals that things aren’t improving....

Every time a company builds a product with a radio frequency (like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi), it must be approved by regulatory agencies like FCC. Interestingly, new FCC filings this week reveal a mysterious new “Network Adapter” from Apple that runs iOS. Code-named “A2657,” the product is simply described as a “Network Adapter.” According to documents shared by the FCC, Apple sent a sample unit of this device to the agency on January 22, 2022....
