Prior to its theatrical release, the first Guardians of the Galaxy film was seen as a risk for Marvel Studios. Sporting a production budget of $170 million, the space opera featured a collection of extremely obscure comic book characters that even some die-hard readers were unfamiliar with. It was banking mainly on the Marvel Cinematic Universe name, and fortunately for all involved, Guardians of the Galaxy worked out better than anyone could have anticipated....

Sony has pushed its horror movie sequel Escape Room 2 back four months to Summer 2020. Directed by Adam Robitel (Insidious: The Last Key), Escape Room follows six strangers as they navigate a series of escape rooms that, as they quickly come to realize, are designed to try and kill them. The film earned middling reviews overall and was criticized for being derivative of trend-setters like Saw and Cube before it, but also landed praise for its creative set pieces....

Tom Hanks is a Navy commander fighting in WWII in the trailer for Greyhound. The two-time Oscar winner famously starred in Steven Spielberg’s WWII movie Saving Private Ryan in 1998, playing the leader of a group of U.S. soldiers tasked with going behind enemy lines and finding the eponymous character (whose brothers were killed in combat). For his latest WWII project, Hanks will star as Ernest Krause, a Navy career officer who’s given his first command of a U....

American actor, former bodybuilder and mixed martial artist, and retired professional wrestler, David Michael Bautista Jr.’s performance as Drax the Destroyer from Guardians of the Galaxy made him a movie star. His character is a fan-favorite whose crippling inability to detect sarcasm is made up for by deadly skills in hand-to-hand combat (at the exclusion of not knowing what it means to put his finger to someone’s throat) and his warrior’s physicality....

In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman talks about Apple’s long-rumored mixed-reality device, which could finally launch as early as next year. This is not the first time Gurman has reported on this mixed reality device. Apple has been planning one for a few years now and it seems it’s almost ready to be announced. He writes: Early this year, a report claimed that this new mixed reality device could cost at least $3,000, which corroborates what Gurman said of this device being pricey....

Halide today announced a major update for its award-winning camera app. iPhone users can update to version 2.5, which enables iPhone 13’s Macro Mode to the iPhone 8 or newer. In a blog post, Halide’s Ben Sandofsky explains how great it is to have a macro camera, showing a ton of examples. Sandofsky also explains that this feature was available for a while thanks to third-party lenses, but those implementations aren’t as powerful as the iPhone 13 solution....

DC Comics made it official at New York Comic Con, revealing that Geoff Johns’ Doomsday Clock series is indeed a full on sequel to Watchmen and that’ll it see some of its characters crossover with Superman, Batman, The Flash, and other icons from the DC Universe. This is what fans have been waiting for since the prologue DC Universe: Rebirth launched last summer and it’s all made with the gorgeous and unique art of Gary Frank in the same nine-panel style as the Watchmen....

Whether we like it or not, we’ve just spent the penultimate season of Game of Thrones rushing to the final chapter. After six grueling seasons and one speedy one, we’re nearing the sure-to-be epic end of the song of ice and fire. Giant-Man is front and center in the new images and poster for Ant-Man and The Wasp. Marvel Studios has taken plenty of so-called “risks” over the years that many thought would be the studio’s big failure, but Ant-Man once again bucked that notion. With Paul Rudd starring and some unique size-changing superhero action (along with a lower budget), Ant-Man took in over $500 million at the global box office. The movie’s financial and critical success gave Marvel enough confidence in the franchise to rearrange their Phase 3 slate to include an Ant-Man sequel....
