The live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, based on Masamune Shirow’s acclaimed sci-fi anime/manga property of the same name, has been in some form of development since 2008; however, it now looks to be the first arrival in what could be a wave of Hollywood live-action movies based on Japanese comic book/animation franchises, followed by such films as Death Note from director Adam Wingard (You’re Next). Scarlett Johansson is headlining the film with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) onboard as director, while Sam Riley (Maleficent) and Pilou Asbæk (Johnasson’s Lucy costar) are said to be onboard to play key roles in the futuristic action/thriller....

Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones reacts to Jason Reitman’s upcoming reboot, slamming the new film. Ivan Reitman’s original Ghostbusters movie hit theaters in 1984, introducing the world to the team played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. The film was successful enough to launch a full-blown media franchise, which has since grown to include the sequel, Ghostbusters II, as well as spinoff video games and animated TV shows....

Everything old is new again, and where 2015 revisited the Mad Max, Jurassic Park, and soon the Star Wars franchise, 2016 is bringing back Ghostbusters. At one point there were reportedly as many as three Ghostbusters movies in the pipeline, but only Paul Feig’s production appears to be actually happening (at least for the moment). Starring Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy as the titular paranormal investigators, Feig’s Ghostbusters is a hard reboot for the series and isn’t expected to reflect any of the events from the previous films....

For the past year, Google has been increasingly calling out Apple for not adopting RCS (Rich Communication Services) on the iPhone. Meant to replace SMS/MMS, it has a number of technical advancements that would improve the messaging experience between Android and iOS users. Google is now launching a “Get The Message” pressure campaign in hopes that Apple will change its mind on RCS. If #GetTheMessage sounds familiar, it was the hashtag appended to the Android team’s video explainer of “Texts Go Green” by Drake in June....

It was a scary Friday the 13th for Agent K and Rick Deckard, as a new champion emerged at the box office this weekend. Coming in first is Happy Death Day (read our review), which made $26.5 million in its first three days. The horror film, benefitting from solid word-of-mouth, has grossed five times its production budget of $4.8 million just in the United States, becoming another winner for Blumhouse in the process....

It’s been a roller coaster ride between Elon Musk and Twitter this year with the Tesla CEO giving up on the acquisition back in July. Days after, Twitter sued Musk for breach of contract. Now in the latest chapter of the saga, Musk has sent a letter to Twitter with a proposal to go through with the $44 billion purchase. Update 12:26 pm PT: Via Walter Bloomberg, a Twitter spokesperson has shared “the intention of the company is to close the transaction at $54....

Facebook is continuing to ramp up its efforts to deepen integration between Facebook and Instagram. This time, the company has announced a handful of updates to Facebook Messenger, including group cross-app communication for communicating with contacts from both Messenger and Instagram in one group. Facebook explains: Facebook also notes that all group chats, regardless of whether they are cross platform, will offer the same controls over who can reach you:...

The Verge reports that Facebook plans to change the company name to better reflect the companies focus on “the metaverse.” A source familiar with the matter confirmed the news to The Verge. The change could come soon, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be speaking at the company’s Connect conference on October 28. Similar to the way that Alphabet is the parent company of Google, YouTube, and more, this change will see Facebook, the social network, be but one of many products under a parent company of a new name that includes WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus....

This is largely due to the feeling that Fantastic Beasts 2 took a competent, clever, and beloved heroine and changed her into a crazed and confused puppet with no scruples at all....

AMC’s The Walking Dead continues to be a ratings monster as its sixth season overall takes its main crew of characters to surprising new places (even as the TV show’s familiar plot beats are becoming increasingly easy fodder for parody). However, the network isn’t about to let anyone forget that its prequel/sister-series, Fear The Walking Dead, will be coming back this April. Season 1 of the early-outbreak saga ended with its characters headed for new shelter on the California coast, but the marketing for season 2 hhasve indicated that they will soon be taking to the ocean to attempt to avoid the unfolding zombie (and human) carnage....

A new Aquaman promotional image gives fans a closer look at Jason Momoa’s cool superhero suit. Taking a break for several months following the release of Justice League last year, Warner Bros. is gearing to slowly roll out their marketing campaign for the forthcoming James Wan-directed project. Although it’s hard to imagine, there were almost baby Deadpools running around on set during Deadpool 2, as Ryan Reynolds admitted the initial script for the film would have seen Wade Wilson as a dad. Flappy Bird is making a return to the app store with a new game set in the Battle Royale genre. Many may recall that Flappy Bird was a mobile game that took the world by storm several years ago, creating ample fan support before eventually being taken down. The game later returned with multiplayer and has continued on as a free-to-play mobile title ever since.
