The Kojima/Konami Divorce Kojima joined Konami in 1986 and created the original Metal Gear for the MSX2 the following year. The game is crude by modern standards, but its focus on stealth over action was considered groundbreaking for the time. It spawned a sequel three years later, but it wasn’t until third game Metal Gear Solid arrived in 1998 that the series became a phenomenon. The innovative gameplay and storytelling made it a monster success and Kojima himself something of a celebrity....

Allen Leech has joined the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody. In 1968 several young men in England formed a band called Smile. Over the next few years, there were several changes to the band’s makeup, as several bassists left and a singer/songwriter and pianist Farrokh Bulsara, aka Freddie Mercury, joined them. They also changed their name to Queen in 1970. Throughout the seventies and eighties, Queen became one of the biggest rock bands in the world, and to this day remain among the best selling music artists ever....

According to its official score on Rotten Tomatoes, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the lowest-rated film in the Harry Potter franchise. The U.K.’s GCHQ issues an official response to the Dalek attack in yesterday’s Doctor Who New Year’s Special, reassuring the country that it’s up and running again. The special episode, “Resolution,” saw Earth threatened by a rejuvenated Dalek that had been lying dormant since the 9th Century - and it launched a devastating attack on GCHQ as part of the plot. Established after the First World War, GCHQ - the Government Communications Headquarters - is based in the suburbs of Cheltenham....

James McAvoy’s acting chops will be pushed even further in Glass as he’ll play 21 different personalities. M. Night Shyamalan shocked audiences last year when Split came to a close and was revealed to take place in the same universe as Unbreakable. The revelation soon came to fruition with Universal announcing that the two films will crossover in a true sequel. Glass is coming out next year and the hype is starting with the release of the first trailer at SDCC....

Godzilla vs. Kong may get delayed from its March release date to later in 2020. The upcoming MonsterVerse crossover event was actually originally supposed to release on May 22, 2020, but was moved up to March 13, presumably to avoid competition with Fast & Furious 9. Godzilla vs. Kong serves as a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. Not too much has been revealed about the story, but a plot synopsis was released....

It’s been a long ride for Kevin Smith (Yoga Hosers), who went from indie film provocateur with films like Clerks and Chasing Amy in the ’90s to a leader of geek culture. A beacon for DIY creativity in the entertainment industry still, Smith has built his career on marching to his own drum, famously working on projects that interest him first and foremost. Admittedly, the results of his recent forays into filmmaking have been a bit hit or miss....

An early version of Ego the Living Planet’s look has emerged online via a concept art which is notably different from the final product that appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The piece shows what Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) long-lost father could have looked like if the idea was fleshed out on screen. Just a couple of days ago, a different concept art showing Matthew McConaughey as Ego also emerged online....

Electronic Arts (via Game Rant) is working on an unannounced Star Wars game in its EA Vancouver studio, and it will have a multiplayer focus. A job listing for a Senior Online Designer position is currently open, and the company is looking for someone that can “execute on the vision for a unique online experience.” They’ll also be tasked with designing and tuning online game modes, social features, and managing the game’s live service....
