Joining what may be the busiest few weeks of video game releases ever, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise is back and better than ever. Assassin’s Creed: Origins, the result of four years of development and the first game benefitting from the developers taking a year off for the series, released on PC and consoles last week to rave reviews. Among the many things Assassin’s Creed is known for, from innovated and dynamic gameplay mechanics to meticulously crafted historical landmarks and environments, it’s the incredible art and production design that goes into these games....

Marvel Studios and Disney have concluded their 2016 slate in impressive fashion. Both Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange have been financially successful in addition to being well-received by critics and general audiences. While this year was just the beginning of Phase 3, it is the last time Marvel will release only two movies in a year. In 2017, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will get three new installments on the big screen, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol....

Fans of the Halo series can assemble their friends under one roof and settle in for a good time when Halo Infinite launches, as the upcoming title has been confirmed to support 4-player splitscreen play. Also confirmed by developer 343 Industries is that Halo Infinite will have player customization on par with Halo Reach, and greater support for the game’s PC release, which will be the first PC version in franchise history to launch alongside the console release....

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are ringing in the new year with a fresh trailer for Happy Death Day 2U. The original Happy Death Day hit theaters in 2017 and starred Jessica Rothe as Tree Gelbman: a college student who wakes up after a night of hard-partying to find herself trapped in a time loop where she’s murdered by a mysterious person in a baby mask (the school’s mascot), over and over again....

After 55 years, Doctor Who season 11 has finally introduced Time Lord religion. Although it’s generally been assumed that the Doctor isn’t religious, the show has always had a nuanced view of faith. Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor, for example, was deeply attracted to the Buddhism - and indeed, in “Planet of the Spiders” he met a fellow Time Lord who was living as a Buddhist Monk. Many episodes have explored the idea that powerful aliens are the basis behind legends of gods and - most frequently - devils; “The Pyramids of Mars” explored the aliens behind Egyptian mythology; “The Daemons” unveiled the creatures who inspire tales of the Devil, and “The Satan Pit” unforgettably revealed a corrupting force that even the Doctor could barely begin to explain or understand....

Earlier this year, Dolby had invited podcasters to prepare their shows for a more immersive experience with Dolby Atmos. Now Dolby has announced that Wondery is the first podcast platform to deliver audio content using Atmos technology. Dolby Atmos, as you may already know, is a surround technology that enables three-dimensional sound, so that listeners get the feeling that the sound is coming from different directions. This technology has been available in the industry for some time, but only recently has it been expanded to devices such as smartphones and headphones....

Elizabeth Olsen expresses interest in a possible House of M Marvel film. Since her and Vision’s introduction in the MCU in Avengers: Age of Ultron, comic book fans presumed the two will evolve into a full-blown romantic relationship. Things progressed nicely in Captain America: Civil War and by the time Avengers: Infinity War rolls around, it seems like they’re officially an item. It’s not the best time to start a relationship considering Vision is on Thanos’ target list, but if Marvel is playing the long game with them, it can lead to a possible adaptation of House of M on the big screen....

Twitter has made it official: it will accept Elon Musk’s offer to buy the company at a value of $54.20 per share. The Flash’s Elseworlds episode wasn’t just any episode, it was the first part of the Arrowverse’s annual crossover, which brought together three of the shared universe’s shows (Legends of Tomorrow didn’t take part in the Arrowverse crossover this year). “Elseworlds, Part 1” saw the CW heroes in a very different world from the one we know: one where our Barry Allen is actually the Green Arrow and Oliver Queen is the fastest man alive....

Doris Roberts had an acting career that began in 1951 and was active for seven different decades. She worked in film, in television and on stage, accumulating more than 30 feature film credits and dozens more in television. She was even an activist for animal rights and people with AIDS, and testified before Congress about age discrimination in Hollywood. But Doris Roberts was perhaps best known for a role she took on in her 70s: That of matriarch Marie Barone on the hugely popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, from 1996 to 2005....

A cosplayer at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 dressed up as the coffee cup from Game of Thrones. HBO began the award-winning series in 2011 and this year marked the final season of the show. While season 8 of Game of Thrones was one of HBO’s most anticipated events of the year, the final season didn’t live up to expectations. While the beginning of season 8 set streaming and rating records for Game of Thrones, things quickly went downhill....

Godzilla: King of the Monsters introduces even more kaiju to Warner Bros. and Legendary’s MonsterVerse. The new Godzilla 2 trailer, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, offers the first good look at these newcomers, but in the case of Mothra, the trailer also confirms that she will appear in both her larva and winged forms. Mothra is different from the other kaiju - or Titans, as they’ll be referred to in the Godzilla sequel - because she more than any other acts as a protector of humanity rather than a destroyer....

The success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has naturally inspired Hollywood to leap on the bandwagon, as the new status quo for blockbusters is a vast, overarching narrative. Google applications on iOS have long been criticized for not feeling native to the platform. Earlier this year, the company’s designers reviewed their approach for developing iOS apps and opted for a change. Google apps on iOS have long looked and functioned near identically to their Android counterparts. That in itself is fine and the company’s prerogative, but Apple enthusiasts have complained about Google applications not respecting common iOS conventions and “feel,” thus resulting in an inconsistent user experience between first and third-party clients....

Jodie Whittaker confirms she will be returning for Doctor Who season 12. Whittaker made her debut as the 13th and first female incarnation of the Time Lord this season, and while the season consistently delivered strong ratings it’s been controversial. Some detractors were clearly opposed to a woman taking the role at all, and rumors even swirled that Whittaker and new showrunner Chris Chibnall would be exiting after the current season....

Dwayne Johnson has congratulated Avengers: Infinity War on its box office victory while also teasing a movie team-up with costar Chris Pratt. The Rock enjoyed a short-lived reign atop the box office with his video game movie Rampage before Infinity War hit the scene, but will soon be back for more. In fact, the ever prolific Johnson already has another action/thriller scheduled to hit theaters around two months from now. The film in question, Skyscraper, is an original feature inspired by classics of the genre like The Towering Inferno, Die Hard, and even The Fugitive according to The Rock himself....

In Q2 2022, Europe smartphone shipments declined 11% in a Year-Over-Year comparison, but Apple manage to grow shipments and market share, mostly because of its 5G-capable iPhone SE. The data comes from a Counterpoint Research study; what’s interesting about this report is that while the iPhone SE had bad reception in the US, it now seems Apple can thank this affordable 5G iPhone – at least in Europe. Although it still doesn’t seem the 5G iPhone SE will be able to turn a billion Android users into switchers, it helped the Cupertino company grow 3% when compared to Q2 2021....

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is chock full of plot twists and big reveals, but none is bigger than the moment at the very end of the film when Grindelwald finally tells Credence who he really is: Dumbledore’s secret brother, Aurelius. For most of the film, the viewer is being led to believe that Credence is Corvus Lestrange (Leta Lestrange’s brother), but even after this is revealed to be untrue (thanks to Leta accidentally murdering her infant sibling), no one could have expected this particular twist....
