Fear the Walking Dead season 3 puts its characters in a repetitive set of circumstances, proving the franchise is in desperate need of new ideas. You might think that, prequel or not, Fear the Walking Dead would learn from the missteps its sister show The Walking Dead has taken as it forged a trail to cable television ratings dominance, one strewn mostly with (un)dead bodies and repetitive storytelling techniques. Instead, as the California-set upstart begins its third season, after a second go-round sailed past an opportunity to take the spinoff in an ambitious, episodic direction that would have made the most of the series’ coastal setting, Fear now resembles its older sibling in almost every way....

Now that The CW’s newest series in its ever-growing DC Comics shared universe has premiered, the three shows - Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow - have returned to or established the unique storylines in their respective seasons. Keiynan Lonsdale will make his return as Wally West (a.k.a Kid Flash) in multiple episodes of The Flash season 6. After first debuting on the inaugural CW show, Arrow, the character of Barry Allen was quickly spun off for adventures of his own. The show later helped produce further spinoffs such as Legends of Tomorrow and the upcoming Batwoman show. As the most consistently rated of all the current Arrowverse spinoffs, the show has comfortably run for five seasons, with a sixth officially starting filming earlier this month....

Based upon a request by U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), the Federal Trade Commission has agreed to investigate video game loot boxes. The FTC will look into whether loot boxes constitute an illegal form of online gambling. Loot boxes are virtual boxes of items that are available for purchase in video games. Although players do not know exactly what items they get when they buy a loot box, they generally consist of digital goods, such as stats upgrades, boosts, skins, weapons, armor, outfits and other in-game merchandise....

Future Man launches into its second season on Hulu today, and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s nostalgia-laden, time-traveling series promises to get even zanier in its sophomore outing than it did in its first (if you watched five full minutes of season 1, you’d know that’s saying something). At the end of the last season, time travelers Tiger and Wolf (Eliza Coupe and Derek Wilson) and their unwitting recruit Josh Futturman (Josh Hutcherson) finally succeeded in their mission to deter a timeline that resulted in a post-apocalyptic Earth filled with humans hunted by the villainous Biotics....

While fans impatiently await the release of Winds of Winter, the next book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, all attention has turned to the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. In the past, there was hope that the two forms of media could keep pace with one another, but seeing as how HBO isn’t slowing down production of the final two seasons of the show, fans will have to decide whether they can bear to wait and watch the omnipresent series until whenever Martin finishes up the next installment....

There is little rhyme or reason to the twists in the climax of Glass. The fact that an M. Night Shyamalan film should contain a twist ending is hardly a revelation or a spoiler, given that most of his movies to date have featured an 11th-hour surprise that changed the meaning of the movie. Unfortunately, with three twists in Glass, it seems that Shyamalan has finally run out of tricks....

M. Night Shyalaman’s Glass is projected to earn between $105-120 million at the worldwide box office during its opening weekend. After becoming something of a punching bag during an extremely rough stretch that saw such duds as Lady in the Water and After Earth, Shyamalan came roaring back to form in a big way with 2017’s Split. On its own merits, the creepy kidnapping thriller is a well-made film buoyed by an acting masterclass from James McAvoy....

About halfway through season 2 of Netflix’s GLOW, the series delivers what might be its funniest and most affecting episode to date. It’s not quite a bottle episode, GLOW smartly walks a fine line between serialized and episodic storytelling — the transition between ‘Work the Leg’ and ‘Nothing Shattered’ is a good example of the former — which has the effect of making episodes like ‘Mother of All Matches’ feel like the kind of standout episode that it is....

Get ready to see Solomon Grundy on the small screen. The latter half of Gotham season 3 played host to lots of big changes, including the unceremonious deaths of several regulars. One of those regulars was Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell), a high-ranking figure in Gotham’s criminal underworld who had worked either with or against just about every notable villain in the city. While Butch was often frustrated by his inability to ascend to the top of the criminal pack, he at least usually occupied a second-in-command-type spot on the organized crime food chain....

David Gordon Green brought brand-new footage from his Blumhouse-produced Halloween to Universal’s Hall H panel at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con. The film, which Green cowrote with Danny McBride, represents something of a fresh start for the Halloween series, in the sense that it functions as a direct continuation of director John Carpenter’s original 1978 slasher movie Halloween and ignores every sequel released since then. As such, the “final girl” from Carpenter’s horror classic, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is still alive and well in Green’s take on the property....

Praise be: The Handmaid’s Tale is renewed for season 4 at Hulu. The award-winning series has become a stand-out for the streaming subscription service by tackling an adaptation of a disconcerting novel as originally written by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s Tale envisions a near dystopian future where religion controls most of the U.S., which is now known as the Republic of Gilead. In this future, many women are unable to conceive children due to an unknown condition....

We still can’t believe it’s been eight years since the Harry Potter movies concluded with the release of Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Sure, the Fantastic Beasts franchise has kept our appetite for all things magical alive in recent times, but there’s still a part of us pining for more about not just Harry, but the world he lives in too. In this day and age where the likes of the MCU and DCEU are able to release solo movies about multiple individuals, think how awesome it would be if Harry Potter went down the route of giving us more about certain characters?...

Apple announced macOS Monterey today at the opening keynote of WWDC 2021. This year’s update to the Mac operating system brought enhancements to cross-device continuity features, a new Safari, Shortcuts, and more. It also comes with new wallpapers, and you can download them here. There’s only one new wallpaper included in the first beta of macOS Monterey, which comes in both light and dark versions. The images show an abstract illustration of Monterey, California, similar to what Apple did last year with the default wallpaper for macOS Big Sur....

Dragon Ball Super: Broly has enjoyed a monstrous opening day in U.S. theaters, estimated to earn over $7 million.
